Donald Losch in Korea with the 430th Engineer Construction Battalion - 1951

This is a travelogue of my dad’s service in the US army during the Korean War.  It covers the period from March 1952 to May 1953.  While in Korea he took many color slides, which I've scanned and will post here in an attempted semblance of order.  Back then slides were numbered but not dated, so it was a challenge to put them in a rough chronology.  Some had place names, so that was a start.  I enlisted Golden Arrow Research (https://www.goldenarrowresearch.com) to find Don’s service records from the time.  Many official records were destroyed in a fire in the 1970s, but Golden Arrow was able to come up with quite a bit of information.  This consisted of Battalion Operations Reports and Daily Unit Records.

Don was drafted in 1951 and sent to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for basic training.  His service was to be for two years.  As Dad told it, because he had taken a high school drafting course, he was selected for engineer training and eventually assigned to the 430th Engineer Construction Battalion as a structural draftsman.
